Job Summary

As an Assistant Town Engineer, you will support the municipal engineering department in planning, overseeing, and delivering infrastructure and public works projects. You’ll assist with technical design, site supervision, regulatory compliance, and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to required standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and designing public infrastructure projects: roads, sidewalks, drainage, public lighting, parks, water supply, sewage etc.

  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and tender documents.

  • Perform calculation, modelling, and technical analyses related to structural, environmental, and civil engineering aspects.

  • Supervise construction / renovation works: inspect work on site to ensure compliance with drawings, safety standards, quality, and schedule.

  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, suppliers, other municipal departments and external agencies.

  • Monitor progress, budget, and quality on ongoing works; report issues or deviations and propose corrective actions.

  • Conduct maintenance planning and small‑scale infrastructure repair works.

  • Ensure compliance with national and local regulations: building codes, environmental protections, safety laws (e.g. safety at work), permits.

  • Assist in municipal asset management: inventories, condition assessments, lifecycle planning of infrastructure.

  • Support preparation of technical reports, project documentation, and presentations for municipal / public meetings.

  • Respond to public inquiries or complaints relating to infrastructure works.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure / Public Works Engineering or related field.

  • Some prior experience (1‑3+ years) working in municipal, public works, or civil engineering environments is preferred.

  • Proficient with engineering design software (e.g. AutoCAD / Civil 3D, GIS, structural / hydrological modelling tools).

  • Good knowledge of construction methods, materials, cost estimating, and civil infrastructure standards.

  • Understanding of Luxembourg’s regulatory environment: permitting, safety, environmental laws, building codes.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Good organisational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks / projects in parallel.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with ability to interact with technical staff, municipal leadership, contractors, and public.

  • Languages: Fluent in French and/or German preferred; Luxembourgish and English are assets.


Working Conditions

  • Mainly office‑based with frequent site visits.

  • Regular work hours, but may include some flexibility (e.g. site inspections outside regular hours).

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions during site supervision.

  • Use of safety equipment and adherence to safety protocols on construction sites.
